2007 Dural Pony Club Camp |
Dural Pony Club held their first Pony Club Camp in many years on the 19th-20th May. It was a fun 2 days with both mounted and unmounted activities. We had 3 different teams, Pink, Yellow and Green which competed against each other in the various mounted games activities planned. Everybody cheered their team mates on and everybody had a go at every activity. The musical cone game remains the favourite with every one giggling and laughing while desperately wanting to reach a cone! We had a night-ride courtesy of the floodlights and the bonfire kept both the kids and ponies warm for dinner and the parents warm for a late night. Lovely ribbon browbands were made by the kids with interesting colour combinations! After that kids were lucky to watch some great new movies on the big projector screen in the upstairs cinema with hot chocolate and baby marshmallows! They slowly dozed off.
The morning didn't start as promptly as had been anticipated. But still
everyone launched into the team spirit that had been shown the previous
day. After more mounted games everone unsaddled and packed up for
a short presentation. 1st, 2nd and 3rd ribbons were given out to the
teams along with a lolly bag and a goody bag put together by Pat at
Villagecourt Saddlery and Mitavite. Charmaine also picked up some
vouchers from Dural Stockfeeds for one bag of Mitavite Xtra Cool given
to the team leaders who helped in the organisation of the camp. The
gifts were wonde We finished the Camp with the jelly bean game. Soon it lost its meaning, being to find the jelly bean in the icing sugar to just covering each other in the stuff! That was a truly fun end to a fantastic camp. On behalf of everyone I would like to thank everyone for coming including the parents for encouraging everyone to participate, the team leaders for helping their team improve and get organised, all the sponsors including Villagecourt Saddlery, Mitavite, Dural Stockfeeds, MacDonald's Dural, Subway Dural, Horseland Dural, Spotlight, and many more, but most importantly Charmaine for making the whole weekend a great experience and organising all the goodies which was a wonderful surprise at the end! I am sure everyone who attended is hoping to make this an annual event and anyone who didn't attend I'm sure is keen to join in next year. Natasha S. |

Sporting Injuries Committee (NSW Govt) 2006 Sports Safety Awards |
At Dural Pony Club our committee rates safety as our Number One priority. In 2006 our safety officer, Vivian Bouchier, implemented a program to make DPC a safer place to ride by increasing our members' awareness of preventing accidents around horses and teaching parents and riders how to minimise injury when accidents do happen. A poster competition and workshop was held to instruct our members. Vivian's efforts culminated in her entering Dural Pony Club in the Sports Safety Committee (NSW Govt) sports Safety Awards in the category "Outstanding Achievement by a Sports Organisation In Implementing and Adopting Safe Sports Practice". DPC were shortlisted for the award and at a presentation dinner held at Telstra Stadium on the 18th November 2006 it was announced that DPC won the GOLD AWARD for this category against many other sporting clubs across NSW! As well as a beautiful trophy the prize also included $1000 to be spent on safety equipment for the club which will be used to purchase body protectors that can be borrowed by our members.
